Save the Dates, Wedding Invitations, and Thank Yous

Dealing with all the “paperwork” that has to be created for a wedding can seem overwhelming. Almost any wedding planner will want to take into account three important things; the save the date, the wedding invitation and the thank you. All of these things need to be created and mailed to each of your guests, but you want to make sure they are all done right and have a theme that goes along with all of them.

First, save the dates are important when you absolutely want people to make sure they clear their calendar for the wedding. It’s a pre-invitation, usually just a simple card that lets people know the set date. All you need is the date and location and it just needs to be simple and to the point, letting people post it on their fridge as a reminder your big day is coming up. It’s good manners to send it out 6 months prior to your event, 8 months if you are having a destination wedding. That way people can prepare their travel plans.

Custom wedding invitations are what follow next. You’ll want to send your full invitation out 2 to 3 months prior to the wedding, again depending on whether it’s a long weekend or destination wedding, or just a single evening. You’ll want to give RSVP information to your guests so they can let you know if they are definitely coming or not and if they are bringing a plus one. That way you can appropriately figure out things like catering, table assignments, favors and more. You can have the visual theme of your save the date match your custom wedding invitations and even coincide with the theme of the actual wedding.

Of course after the wedding, it is important to send thank you’s out in a timely manner. You want your friends and family to know how much it means to you that they came to your wedding and shared with you in the experience and you want to do that while the event is still fresh in their minds. You should do so typically within 3 months from the date of the wedding. Everyone knows the craziness of being newly wed but you don’t want to leave people hanging for too long about whether you liked their gift or not!
